Launched in the summer of 2015, this project-based program uses biological principles at the molecular, cellular and evolutionary levels to innovate new models for engaging citizens in addressing the urban challenges of Paris. Students from Harvard University, Science Po’s École d’Affaires Publiques, the Centre de Recherches Interdisciplinaires work in interdisciplinary teams for 8 weeks to develop and test these ideas in actionable project designs.

The coursework lays a foundation based on biological principles, an urban exploration of Paris’ history and the Smart City model as it applies to such issues as public art, transportation, information technology, and urban planning. As students learn key principles in biology, they in turn use them to adapt and transform the principles of Smart City design.
